Audacity is a free cross-platform sound editing software available for Windows, Mac OS X, Linux and BSD, licensed under the GNU General Public License. It offers several advanced tools and options to add effects to sound files, and also to convert sounds from one format to another. It finds great use in the automatic conversion of audio tapes into digital tracks. Using the wxWidgets software library, Audacity provides the same graphical user interface on different operating systems. However, Audacity does not have dynamic equalizer controls and real-time effects. It is also not possible to move around audio tracks non-linearly.
